A day in the life of Andreas Trottmann

Kaito: How long have you been at KYBURZ?

Andreas: I started my job in purchasing on 1 August 2024.

Kaito: What are your responsibilities?

Andreas: I work in purchasing and am mainly responsible for the procurement of metallic articles.

Kaito: What motivated you to work at KYBURZ, and how is this job different from your previous ones?

Andreas: A few years ago, I went on a company tour of KYBURZ Switzerland AG and it left a lasting impression. In recent years, I have worked for a public-sector company – an educational and exciting time, where many decisions were made at the political level. Now I am working with production parts again and can apply the knowledge I gained from previous jobs.

Kaito: What task during your week do you find most exciting and why does it stand out for you?

Andreas: Every day brings new challenges. I enjoy the variety, so I wouldn't pick out one specific task. However, I definitely enjoy supporting my colleagues and negotiating with suppliers.

Kaito: Many employees know that you are an officer in the Wiesendangen municipal fire brigade. What originally prompted you to take on this responsible role?

Andreas: Some people go to football, others to the gym, but for me, the fire brigade is my hobby. I enjoy taking on responsibility and playing an active role. You grow into certain tasks, and you are challenged and supported. It also allows me to make a valuable contribution to the community.

Kaito: Are there skills that you have developed through your experience as an officer that are also useful to you in your work as an operational buyer at KYBURZ?

Andreas: During training, you learn to react to changes in the shortest possible time, to act with foresight, to plan and to always keep an overview. I think I can benefit from these strengths in my job.

Kaito: If you could bring a completely new skill from a completely different industry into your job, what would it be and why?

Andreas: Knowledge of market research could help me to better understand the needs and expectations of my internal customers. I could conduct surveys or interviews to find out which products or services are most needed, and thus guide purchasing in a targeted way.

Kaito: Can you share a personal hobby or passion that you think contributes to your working life?

Andreas: My passions include family, the fire brigade, carnival and craftsmanship. My family life teaches me to value relationships and cooperation. My involvement with the fire brigade strengthens teamwork, discipline and quick decision-making skills in stressful situations. Carnival, especially building carnival floats, requires craftsmanship, creativity, organisational skills and teamwork. My interest in craftsmanship also shows that I have a practical mind and a good understanding of technical details. All these experiences foster skills such as clear communication, building strong relationships with colleagues and suppliers, and the ability to plan projects effectively and overcome challenges with confidence – skills that are a great advantage in technical purchasing.

Kaito: Is there a goal you definitely want to achieve in the next few years?

Andreas: For the time being, I want to settle in further and get to know the company KYBURZ. I think it's very important for everyone's progress that the various departments work well together. I would like to make a significant contribution to this.

Kaito: In which area of the company do you see great potential for growth or improvement in the future?

Andreas: I think that the move to the new building and the consolidation of the locations will enable synergies to be exploited. Although communicating via teams is practical, it is also possible to discuss or look at something face to face at the same location, which also has its advantages.

Kaito: Which KYBURZ three-/four-wheeler stands out for you in particular, and what do you like about it?

Andreas: Each vehicle has its own special appeal and is a great thing. If I had to choose, I would go for Ali's custom bike.
