A day in the life of Thomas Baumann
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Thomas Baumann: I have been with KYBURZ since September 2019.
Erza: How did you hear about us?
Thomas: I became aware of KYBURZ through Daniel Schär.
Erza: What did you do before KYBURZ?
Thomas: Before KYBURZ I worked at the ZHAW as a research assistant in the field of photovoltaics. Among other things, I was involved with measurement technology for research projects and the evaluation of the measured data. While working, I completed a Master's degree.
Erza: What are your activities?
Thomas: At our Electronics Competence Centre, I take care of developments at the component level of our PCBs, currently mainly for the CELDA BVP and FVP. This also includes commissioning, software development and tests in case of problems with our own PCBs or with new purchased components. I also create our cable drawings and wiring diagrams and deal with technical queries from suppliers or our purchasing department. From time to time I can also be found in production if support is needed in the electrical area.
Erza: What motivates you?
Thomas: I like our products and the attitude of the company. It always makes me happy when I see our vehicles in use on my way to work or in my free time. Even more so when they are vehicles with CELDA electronics, which I have been involved in developing since I started at KYBURZ.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Thomas: My daily routine varies depending on the current activity. First I always check whether there are any urgent enquiries from external contacts, suppliers or work colleagues that need to be answered. Then I take care of the pending tasks in the development projects.
Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?
Thomas: I like the varied work that I get to do. I also like the open, helpful and motivated cooperation with the employees in the company.
Because of the three locations, the flow of information and coordination between the different departments is not always ideal, but hopefully that will change soon.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Thomas: In my free time I play badminton in a club where I am also on the board. I also like photography, and a few years ago I discovered aerial photography with drones. Otherwise, I like to be out in nature, cycling, hiking or rollerblading, which can also be combined with photography.
