Test operation KYBURZ DXC and DXP with Solar Power
In the mid-1980s, the Tour de Sol was launched in Switzerland by Urs Muntwyler. At that time, the aim was to demonstrate the performance of solar cells and to drive adventurously built vehicles that drew their energy from solar cells as far and as fast as possible through Switzerland. Three people who took part in the races work for KYBURZ today: Martin Kyburz, Rolf Menzi and Frieder Herb.
Today, 40 years later, the technology is so advanced that it is used in production-ready vehicles. Under the leadership of Frieder Herb, two of our vehicles, a DXP and a DXC, have been equipped with solar cells. According to KYBURZ's internal study, the vehicles can cover over 4,000 km in one year purely on solar energy.
KYBURZ wants to verify the data from our study with a practical test. For this purpose, the vehicles will be used in regular postal operations in nearby Embrach.
Last Tuesday, the solar-powered DXP/DXC were handed over to the delivery office. Eva Hartung, team leader in Embrach, and her team are pleased to be the first to put the DXP and DXC through their paces. Among other things, they will examine how much less energy is produced due to shading by houses and trees than with a comparable solar system.
For this purpose, we compare the measured values collected by the vehicles with the measured values of the solar system on the roof of our headquarters in Freienstein.
KYBURZ is proud to have been one of the first customers in Freienstein to receive mail delivered by solar power. Another milestone has been reached.
After three months, KYBURZ is pleased to be able to draw up the first interim balance sheet on the operation. We will keep you informed.
