A day in the life of Selim Cetin
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Selim Cetin: I have been working at KYBURZ since the end of October 2022.
Erza: How did you hear about us?
Selim: Martin Kyburz was one of the experts who took my final oral exam in vehicle mechanics and safety.
Erza: What did you do before KYBURZ?
Selim: After my apprenticeship as an automotive mechatronics engineer, I worked for a company that develops and manufactures digital microsensors and systems. Since I worked in a clean room for almost two years, I was already used to the masks that the corona virus brought with it. I then finally realised that my passion was for vehicles after all and decided to study automotive engineering. Parallel to my studies, I took part in the "Formula Student" engineering competition. In a team of 30 students, we built our own formula car to take part in racing events in Switzerland, Germany, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Spain.
Erza: What are your activities?
Selim: I work as a research engineer in our research department. At the moment, I am mainly involved in prototyping, which is a lot of fun. I get to take on a wide variety of tasks, from mechanical work to construction to programming the prototypes.
Erza: What are your strengths?
Selim: I have great stamina. I like to delve into topics and find solutions that work. Even when things get tough, I don't let go. I would also describe myself as a perfectionist, which, as we all know, has its good and bad sides.
Erza: What motivates you?
Selim: I get most of my motivation from doing my job well. I like to deliver a product that I am really convinced of.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Selim: Every day is different for us. Sometimes I'm at my desk designing or programming something, sometimes I'm in the workshop with a hammer and file or at the soldering station. But you can also meet me outside on the premises from time to time when I'm doing test drives with one of our prototypes. Of course, e-mails and phone calls are also part of the job from time to time.
Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?
Selim: I think the varied daily routine is great. I also think it's great to be constantly confronted with new problems while working and to learn something new. I can't stand working half-heartedly on something.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Selim: I like to do sports and ride motorbikes. Motorsport is and remains something that captivates me and I actively pursue, even after my studies. If there is some time in the evening or at the weekend, I like to strum something on the piano or play the guitar. Most of all, however, I like to do something with friends and family. Laughing together and having a good time is most important to me.
