KYBURZ participates in the ReUse project: Innovations for sustainable battery recycling
The ReUse project, an acronym for "Efficient direct recycling for low-value LFP battery for circular and sustainable waste management", is an ambitious research initiative with a duration of 36 months. The aim is to increase recyclability and sustainability in the European supply chain for lithium-ion batteries. This project, which started in January 2024, is co-funded by the EU's Horizon Europe programme and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).
At its core, ReUse aims to maximise material recovery and thereby strengthen the global competitiveness of the European battery ecosystem. A consortium of 13 partners from eight European countries, which first met in Würzburg, Germany, in January 2024, is driving this initiative forward.
As part of ReUse, KYBURZ's innovative battery recycling team is focussing on two key areas: Investigating the impact of the final discharge process on material quality and further developing its water recycling process. This research work is intended to pass on valuable expertise to the project partners and improve the efficiency of lithium-ion battery recycling.
We at KYBURZ are proud of our team's involvement in this important project and wish them every success in their innovative work towards a more sustainable battery ecosystem.
