A CityEL with New Energy
In the early 2000s, the CityEL was the best-selling electric vehicle in Europe. These small vehicles are now showing their age. Hansueli Schoch bought one and got to work.
Unfortunately, the batteries were deeply discharged and could no longer be charged. Batteries from decommissioned KYBURZ postal vehicles were to be given a second life in the CityEL. After numerous measurements and calculations, Hansueli installed the cells and equipped the battery pack with an active cell balancing system.
The CityEL is back in service and, with a consumption of approximately 6 kWh/100 km, achieves a range of 50–60 km on hilly terrain.
KYBURZ got to know Hansueli as a repeat participant in the CE Challenge and wishes him “Safe travels!”
