Traveling Through South Africa on Solar Power
The “Solar Energy Racers” team drove across South Africa for eight days, covering more than 1,500 km powered solely by sunlight. The Swiss team achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the overall standings at the “Sasol Solar Challenge 2026.”
Participation in this year’s race in South Africa was marked by a delay in the vehicle’s delivery from the Port of Durban. There was hardly any time for preparation. The first few days of the race were fraught with difficulties and required working through the night. However, their hard work paid off, and the “Solar Energy Racers” made up ground every day.
KYBURZ Switzerland has been supporting the team for several years. The Bühler Group from Uzwil launched the team in 2010 as an apprenticeship and training project. The team from eastern Switzerland has since become a fixture in solar car racing.
KYBURZ congratulates the team on this success and wishes the “Solar Energy Racers” many more races to come!
