Fleet Management strong as steel: 250 Debrunner-vehicles benefit from KYBURZ System
"We can inform our customers better and don't have to bother our chauffeurs with phone calls."
Mümin Sert schedules the Debrunner vehicles, which deliver steel from Birsfelden.
Three screens form the centre of Mümin Sert's workplace in Birsfelden. The planning and coordination of deliveries with trucks and delivery vans is the core task of the three-person team.
With the KYBURZ system he captures reality and can bring back the past.
Automatic data readout
"We focused on reading out the driver data," says Mümin Sert, explaining the introduction of the KYBURZ Fleet Management System at the Birsfelden branch.
Today, the data from the digital tachographs are automatically read, transmitted and stored, which is required by law. At the same time, the chauffeur's working time begins when the driver card is inserted.
The KYBURZ system transfers the data, including breaks, via an interface to the company's time recording system. The system also shows the dispatcher the driving time already completed by a driver. In this way, he can decide which driver he can still assign a carriage to be unexpectedly dispatched.
Better customer information
On a map Mümin Sert sees where "his" trucks are. "That's a good thing," he stresses. "We can inform the customers better and have to annoy our chauffeurs less with telephone calls. Laughing at the fact that he could monitor the drivers in this way, he says: "I really don't have time for that".
In the dispatching office, things are concentrated but familiar. Even during the quieter morning there are regular pick-ups at the counter. They need papers and information, at the same time a telephone rings and delivery orders for the coming days have to be scheduled. Today, 14 of the 250 Debrunner vehicles in Switzerland are dispatched from Birsfelden.
In Birsfelden, in addition to the KYBURZ system, the new dispatching system was first introduced. "Now other branches are also storming and are impatient," smiles Sert.
Vehicles equipped on weekends
He played a decisive role in the implementation of the system, which already gave him short nights until everything worked to his satisfaction. The KYBURZ system also had start-up difficulties. It is precisely such challenges that seem to spur the father of the family on. "I have ambition - and I always come up with a solution," he says.
With KYBURZ employee Hanspeter Wepfer, he met a counterpart who is carved from the same wood. Mümin Sert was impressed by his commitment, during which all vehicles were equipped with new equipment over a weekend. This meant that there was no downtime for the vehicles.
Strong tools are in demand
In the imposing warehouses, which are equipped with large gantry cranes, the variety of products is surprising. On site, some materials are also cut, milled and made ready for delivery as soon as possible. Not all products can be transported with every vehicle.
Some cannot be combined on a loading bridge. The Debrunner dispatchers in Birsfelden bring this knowledge with them from their own experience. They have all driven their own trucks. Steel transport is "no simple matter". The load securing, the weight distribution on the vehicle and the unloading sequence must be carefully observed. Not only do strong trucks and cranes have to be used, but the dispatchers also need strong tools - in the form of software.
