A day in the life of Oliver Zimmermann
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Oliver Zimmermann: I have been with KYBURZ since November 2019.
Erza: How did you hear about us?
Oliver: I met Andreas Künzle at the Frackwoche in Winterthur and got into conversation with him. There he told me about an autonomous project of KYBURZ and that there was a vacancy in Erik's team.
Erza: What did you do before KYBURZ?
Oliver: Before KYBURZ I worked in an engineering service company in Altstetten. Before that I finished my studies.
Erza: What are your activities?
Oliver: I work in the research team and am responsible for mechanical components and conversions. I also assist with wiring and programming. For example, I worked a lot on the obstacle detection of Stine (our second autonomous PLUS).
Erza: Where are your strengths?
Oliver: I would say in team communication and in the goal-oriented implementation of projects.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Oliver: I usually come into the office between 07.30 and 08.00 and check my emails first. At the moment, my daily routine is very different. I am working on the design for the drive of our latest project. That means a lot of estimating, calculating, looking for components and inquiring about manufacturers. From time to time I also do some programming or am in the workshop annoying myself with my own designs :-)
At the same time, we are also working on the new vehicle for the Australian Post, which should be presented in June.
Erza: What do you like? What not so much?
Oliver: I particularly like the way people interact with each other in the company. Everyone is very open, helpful and upbeat. I also like our products and the fact that we have the opportunity to try out new things on the vehicles in research.
What I don't like so much is that the flow of information between the departments doesn't always run smoothly and that we are divided into three different locations.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Oliver: In my free time, I spend a lot of time outdoors with my girlfriend and friends or solving puzzles. In the summer I like to barbecue, ride my bike and go hiking. I have also been playing the saxophone for about 18 years.
Erza: What are your plans for the future?
Oliver: I'm getting married in a month and then I'm going on a long trip with my girlfriend/wife at the end of July. After that I will come back to KYBURZ and look forward to the exciting projects.
