A day in the life of Martin Schnelli Widmer
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Martin Schnelli Widmer: My first day of work was on 1 October 2019, so almost exactly 3 years... how time flies.
Erza: How did you hear about us?
Martin: While zapping through the many TV channels, I got stuck on Tele Diessenhofen. The KYBURZ company was being presented there. Martin showed the company and its products. After this programme, I spontaneously applied blindly and was then hired very quickly by René Stoll.
Erza: What did you do before KYBURZ?
Martin: After my apprenticeship as a precision mechanic, I switched to the household appliance industry and worked for various companies as a service technician in the field repairing all kinds of household appliances. After that, I worked for a long time in the copier and printer industry, where I specialised in integrating printers into the network and continued my education in the IT field. After that, I made a short detour to the Schindler company as a lift technician.
Erza: What are your activities?
Martin: I work in the IT and infrastructure department and am responsible for the running of all servers, computers, laptops, telephones, printers and the entire network. I also help Tury with the jobs that require two hands more, such as putting up walls, setting up workstations and much more.
Erza: What are your strengths?
Martin: Working independently, repairing everything instead of throwing it away, accepting and implementing new work. Being versatile and helpful.
Erza: What motivates you?
Martin: Working every day in a pleasant environment with good people.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Martin: My day starts around 6.30 a.m., because I can still get through the traffic towards Zurich. First I look at the mails and check the server remotely to see if there are any updates to be done. After that, I make a rough work plan, which is then completely thrown out at 8-9 a.m. because there is something more urgent to do somewhere. When I'm out and about in the various locations, I'm always approached by staff members who have requests and work for me to do. I then discuss them with René and implement them.
So you can't really plan your day, which makes it all the more exciting. I finish work at 4.15 - 4.30 p.m. so that I get home before the heaviest traffic.
Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?
Martin: I really like working independently with great colleagues because the interaction among us is always collegial.
The different locations and the communication between it are not optimal. But this will change with the new building.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Martin: I love the warmth and to be in and on the water a lot. I like sailing, diving and swimming. When the light is good, I also like to photograph sunsets at Untersee. My family and I also enjoy spending quality time at the campsite by the water. We also have two dogs with whom we are out a lot.
Erza: What are your plans for the future?
Martin: I want to work at KYBURZ for many more years and continue to face the challenges.
