A day in the life of Martin Jerg
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Martin Jerg: Almost exactly 10 years! It's amazing how time flies.
Erza: How did you hear about us?
Martin: Martin Kyburz and I have known each other privately for much longer. He had the idea that I should join the company. At first I was a bit sceptical, because I was working in a completely different industry. But as time went by, I liked the idea more and more and finally I took the step and never regretted it!
Erza: What did you do before KYBURZ?
Martin: I was a professional military pilot in the air force for over 20 years. There I flew helicopters and the Federal Council jet for almost 17 years. In fact, I still fly the Twin Otter of Swisstopo as a militia pilot - but at the end of the year it will probably be over for good.
Erza: What are your activities?
Martin: I started in 2013 as managing director of the service department. After 7 years, I then switched to sales and also managed it for 2 years. Since the beginning of 2022, I have been working internationally as a B2B salesperson and currently look after over 20 countries. You have to think of it as an intermediary role between our customers and the company. It's exciting to accompany new contacts from day one, to advise, to find solutions and then to see how a fleet is introduced to the customer and ideally becomes bigger and bigger.
Erza: What are your strengths?
Martin: I'm good at building relationships. I like dealing with our customers. I can quickly establish a rapport and, most importantly, build trust in the company.
Erza: What motivates you?
Martin: To be able to offer our customers a tailor-made solution with our excellent products and also to be there for them if something goes wrong.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Martin: Rarely is one day the same as another. I'm in contact with customers a lot by phone or video conference. The aim is to move the numerous projects forward step by step. In addition, there is a lot of travelling - personal contact with clients is indispensable even in the age of teams and co.
Erza: What do you like? What rather less?
Martin: I find the cooperation with our numerous departments - it takes practically everyone in every project - enormously exciting. The feeling of pulling together to serve our customers in the best possible way is great fun.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Martin: I am a family, garden and water person. In my free time, you're most likely to find me on or near the water or working in the garden. Our children are already grown up, but a month ago, in addition to our two cats, our Bolonka puppy Rose moved in with us. That's a joy and gives us something to do. With a bit of luck you'll see her in the office.
Erza: What are your plans for the future?
Martin: To accompany many more exciting projects from the planning to the bidding and finalisation phase to the operation of the fleet!
