A day in the life of Silvan Wiedmer
Rina Suka: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Silvan Wiedmer: I've been with KYBURZ Switzerland AG since August 2023.
Rina: How did you hear about us?
Silvan: During my apprenticeship, I went on a school trip to KYBURZ, so I was already familiar with KYBURZ. I got a job in the battery recycling team through my classmate at the time, Yunus Ruff, who still works in battery recycling at KYBURZ today.
Rina: What did you do before KYBURZ?
Silvan: I completed a 4-year apprenticeship as an automation technician EFZ at MSW in Winterthur. I then worked as an automation technician for a few more years and recently started my degree in Computational and Data Science.
Rina: What do you do?
Silvan: I basically have two tasks. Firstly, maintaining and further developing our "Liberty" recycling plant and secondly, developing software that can control the recycling process.
Rina: What are your strengths?
Silvan: My strengths lie in my ability to work in a team, my flexibility and my focus on the individual tasks.
Rina: What motivates you?
Silvan: I am motivated by the fact that I can make my contribution to a topic that is very relevant to the future.
Rina: What is your typical daily routine like?
Silvan: As I work in two different subject areas, I don't have a typical daily routine. Depending on what is more important at the time, I develop software or expand the functionality of the recycling plant. We define this in our team.
Rina: What do you like? What do you like less?
Silvan: What I particularly like about working in the recycling team is that Yunus and I are jointly responsible for all the automation and software issues. This makes everyday life very varied in most cases.
Rina: What do you like to do in your free time?
Silvan: In my free time, I like to go climbing, hiking or cycling.
Rina: What are your plans for the future?
Silvan: My plans for the future are to successfully complete my studies. I'll leave the rest up to me.
