The products of Siemens PLM Software from Belgium help engineers to manage vehicle development
to improve. The broad product portfolio of a highly specialized company includes
CAD/CAM packages (computer-aided design and manufacturing tools) or software programs that
serve the cost calculation of assemblies, production planning, or the optimization of production.
With the software from Siemens PLM, engineers can calculate using computer models, for example,
how long a component for a car will last, how the transmission of a new vehicle sounds, or how
Moving oscillations and vibrations in a vehicle.
"At the trade fairs where we present our products, the eRod attracts the attention of the visitors." Jan Debille
eRod as a research platform
A lot of high techs. To demonstrate the capabilities of the sensors and instruments on a vehicle platform, Siemens installed the sensitive devices on an eRod. "The eRod was equipped with more than 200 sensors, from strain sensors to accelerometers and microphones," says Jan Debille, Business Development Manager at Siemens PLM. Why did the Siemens specialists choose the eRod for this task? "Because eRod is attractive. At the trade fairs where we present our products, it attracts the attention of visitors," says Jan Debille. The attractive appearance is not the only reason why the eRod plays a role in the top league of vehicle development: "All components are very clearly visible," says Jan Debille, citing another argument in favor of the eRod from KYBURZ. He adds that none of the major automotive groups feel disadvantaged when Siemens presents its high-tech sensors on this vehicle. Both Switzerland and the KYBURZ company are considered neutral in the automotive competition.
On three continents
The eRod has now proven so successful at Siemens that seven vehicles are in use worldwide for development and marketing: One each in the USA and South Korea, two in China, and three in Europe. And there is another thing that Jan Debille particularly likes about the eRod: "The cooperation with the KYBURZ company is very positive. We get all the technical details of the eRod that we need. That helps us a lot."
