Race on Ice
Some fun had to be had once again. Meanwhile, the DXP was very well established at the Post, and we had capacity for a new project. This time I wanted to do something special for the riders. I had the fixed idea of holding a race on the ice with the DXP. It was to be held in the same way as the ice races, but without spikes, of course. This would create very spectacular drifts at low speeds. Skill driving would be encouraged, and different teams would compete against each other. These would include the postmen themselves, but also the service technicians and the suppliers. One team was to be provided by KYBURZ and one was reserved for friends of the company. Where was the event to take place? I had the Lakes of Saint Moriz in mind. I had the opportunity to watch a horse race there in my youth. Unfortunately, the lake had been booked up for years. We tried various other locations. But the lakes always had the disadvantage that it depended on the weather whether the event could be held or not. Ice rinks were the solution! In the low season, these could be hired for half a day for a reasonable amount, and we were not dependent on the weather. One evening we loaded up some Ivecos full of DXP and whoever from the company wanted to come along to Winterthur for a trial race. It was great fun. We tested, held the first races and I presented the first place winners with a golden chocolate Easter bunny that I had bought at Volg beforehand. Now we definitely knew: the race could take place, and it was great fun. The organization of the races was so professionally organized by my team that even a car race organizer paid us respect. A good schedule was worked out and the drivers all had their instruction time, their preparation phase, their short training opportunity, and then it came to the race. Over 100 participants wanted to be very well coordinated up to and including the closing ceremony including the prize giving. In total, we ran the race three times. Besides being a lot of fun for all participants, it bonded our team together, and we just practised to pull off bigger events. You never know what it's going to be good for.
I learned from it:
- Fun is a must.
- The best training for my team is to run an event.
- Giving pleasure to others gives me the greatest pleasure.
